Our Story

Kamama Designs started when sisters Sabrina Maurer and Wendy Mingus began beading together. Both sisters immediately fell in love with the creative process of designing and making their own jewelry. Both have multiple chronic illnesses and beading helped to relieve their stress in the day to day. They knew they would one day need a way to work on their own terms, and also desired to create artisan jewelry, so Kamama was born. Kamama is Cherokee for butterfly, we felt it was a good way to show respect to our Native American heritage. A purple butterfly is important to both sisters as a symbol of hope and understanding.
